Part 1: How to update drivers Quick & Easy steps
Start with these simple methods. They work for most devices and are safe for beginners.
Use Windows Update
- Press “Windows + i” to open Settings.
- Go to “Windows Update“.
- Click “Check for updates“.
- Click Advanced options > Optional updates.
- Look for “Driver updates“
- Select and install available driver updates.
Update Driver via Device Manager
- Right-click the “Start” button and choose “Device Manager.
- Expand the category of the device you want to update.
- Right-click the device and select “update driver.
- Choose “Search automatically for drivers.
- Windows will find and install the best driver available.
Use Manufacturer Support Website
- Visit your device or PC manufacturer’s support site.
- Enter your model or serial number.
- Download the latest driver for your device.
- Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
Update GPU Drivers
For the best performance in games and applications.
NVIDIA
- Download Geforce Experience.
- Go to Driver > Check for updates.
- Download and install.
AMD
- Download AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
- Go to Drivers > Check for updates.
- Download and install.
Use Windows Optional Driver Updates
- Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options.
- Click Optional updates.
- Install any available drivers.
Part 2: Advanced & Intermediate Methods
Use these methods to update drivers when basic steps don’t work or you need more control.
Install Drivers Manually (From File)
- In Device Manager, right-click the device > Update driver .
- Choose “Browse my computer for drivers“.
- Click “Browse” and select the driver folder.
- Click “Next” to install.
Uninstall and Reinstall Driver
- Right-click the device.
- Select “Uninstall device“.
- Check Delete the driver software for this device (If available)
- Click “Uninstall“.
- Restart your PC.
- Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
Use Windows Terminal (PowerShell)
- Open Windows Terminal (Admin).
- Use PNPUTIL commands to list, add or remove drivers.
- Example: pnputil /enum-drivers (Lists all drivers)
